What the reviewers said about THE ASSASSIN’S KEEPER

“This book is reminiscent of the macho detective heroes of the 80’s. In many ways it reminded me of Charles Bronsen in St Ives.
Pedro has that ultra cool, unflappable Bronsen swagger. John, too is a man’s man.
This is no messing, hard hitting detective fiction. No fluff, no frills just getting on with the action.”

“The excellent dialogue in this book made it a hit for me. The author knew his characters well and was able to keep the dialogue entertaining and authentic.
Good use of the politics of the time to create an unusual plot line.”

“This is detective work 80’s style and it makes a pleasant change. It you grew up in the 80’s or just remember that time, you will get a warm feeling from this book as memories of 80’s cop shows return.”

“Many other characters will enter the plot like the treacherous Sue West, the mysterious dance school owner Rosa and ‘insufferable ass’ Edward.
However, it is John’s contentious relationship with Pedro which is central to the book and which never ceases to take surprising twists and turns.
The author has created distinctive and real characters who carry the plot very well.”

“The Assassin’s Keeper is written very much like a TV series. What I mean by that, is that the action could easily be broken up into a ten part series.
The book has all the elements of good TV detective drama with red herrings, punch ups, murders, back stabbing and intrigue all dotting the path to the explosive conclusion.
A highly original work written in a slightly unusual format. This is not a who-dunnit or a quest for justice type thriller; it examines a rather complex and drawn out plot of revenge in which the stakes could not be higher.”

GREAT REVIEWS for THE ASSASSIN’s KEEPER

John McClements has been getting some terrific reviews for his conspiracy based, thriller THE ASSASSIN’S KEEPER and you can grab your kindle copy today for only 99c (limited time offer ends May 12)

An interesting blend of detective fiction and international espionage.
This book is lively, entertaining and modern. The language is accessible and the pace is very good throughout.
The author is efficient with words, in terms of being able to set the scene well without laborious descriptions.
I agree with the other reviewers about the authenticity of the characters.
Nice read.

The author’s forte is in his characters and dialogue. Many authors of fiction are so immersed in complex plots that the characters are secondary and the dialogue is wooden and poorly thought out.
I found the characters jumped off the page and did have a real feel to them – especially the men. I did find Drinda rather intriguing and it was a pity she never continued later into the book.

Conflict is vital in any crime thriller and there is no shortage of conflict between these characters. The dynamic between John and Pedro is fascinating. While John is always on the back foot in terms of his relationship with Pedro, he is man enough to stand up to the suave Argentinian and tell him off or tell him to go to hell. John thinks he is merely doing detective grunt work for Pedro, but he wants out, his marriage is suffering and he cannot keep up with running his restaurant and doing Pedro’s dirty work and then he hears something…a name…chills run down his spine and suddenly it all falls into place and it is more shocking than he can ever imagine.

DEAR LEILA – Chicklit Humour Book 99c on amazon Until Sept 3

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00056]

Sex and the City meets Bridget Jones in a laugh out loud chick-lit tale of two women in two cities.

When Leila and Kimi reignite a high friend school friendship via an on-line exchange some years later, the results are a hilarious batch of frank and feisty emails flying across the Atlantic.

Leila, in London, is single and playing the field with the emphasis on playing. Kimi is in NYC heading for splitsville with her cranky and possibly cheating hubbie. They bare all in their spicy emails to each other about the bad, mad and dangerous to know of the male world and how there is a fine line between love and farce.

A thoroughly modern and quirky tale of life, love and lust in 2015 and how social media has lead to a very new moral or immoral code.

Funny, lively and fast moving.

Warning: Some bad lingo and mild sexual content.

REVIEWS

This book tells the tale of two women’s lives via the vehicle of their email exchanges. As the book takes the form of emails it is very in intensive in terms of action as there are no lengthy descriptions or irrelevant waffle it’s just frank banter and heart to heart revelations. The author kinda gets how in the cyber world we reveal stuff and do stuff we would not do in ‘real’ life as somehow what goes down in cyberspace, stays in cyberspace..or does it.

Both Kimi and Leila have rather modern attitudes about love and dating and they certainly don’t take no prisoners. Although this is a light-hearted read, some more serious issues ie stalking, divorce and affairs are tackled in a realistic way.

This is a very lively and pacey book and you will be pleasantly amused by the many unexpected turns.

I know another review criticized the grammar of this book; but I feel that it was written in a highly colloquial way and just how one writes when we write emails – it is not meant to be written like a novel where all the syntax is dead right. It’s conversational.
It’s fast moving and very modern. The author does not dwell on things; it’s really about having a laugh and not to be taken seriously like a full length novel.
This is the first time that I’ve read a story that was told entirely through email transactions, and I have to say that I quite liked it! That was definitely a very clever way of telling a story and I think the author executed it well. This is a fun, short, and fast-paced read that can easily be read in one setting (trust me, you’ll want to!). Can’t wait to see more from this author.

SUPERB CRIME FICTION for Summer Reading.

The Problem with Paleo: Taking a Deeper Look at the Popular Myths and Fallacies of Eating Like a Caveman – Kindle edition by Joey Lott. Health, Fitness & Dieting Kindle .

Holy Health Food or Paleo Propaganda?

So, you’ve given up grains, sugar, and dairy—the evil white foods—in the name of health and weight loss. Seems like a pretty good plan, right? After all, the world is abuzz right now with paleo diet plans and low-carb lifestyle tips. It seems everyone has gotten on the paleo bandwagon, but is it really all it’s cracked up to be?

Lots of Hype, But How Much is True?

The industry experts—the Wolfs, the Sissons, the Kressers—claim that a paleo or “primal” diet can cure all that ails you. Diabetes will disappear. Digestion will run like clockwork. Your excess weight will melt right off, and your muscles will be the envy of bodybuilders everywhere. The trouble is that most people don’t question if any of it is really true. Worse yet, some people start to experience negative side effects—fatigue, weakness, anxiety—and go to greater dietary extremes, still sucked into the paleo ideology.
The trouble with most diets is that they claim to work for everyone all the time. And the truth is that that is simply not true! Paleo is no different. So if paleo doesn’t work the way it says it does, what is the truth?

Questions Answered, Health Renewed

Is insulin really the “fat-storing” hormone? Is sugar really the devil? If ketones are the preferred fuel source for the body, why will the body resort to eating its own muscle tissue if it’s deprived of carbohydrates? Author Joey Lott explores these, and other vital questions in The Problem with Paleo, a must-read for anyone hooked on the paleo propaganda but wondering if it’s really too good to be true. If you thought the paleo diet was going to be your cure all, but instead you feel weak and anxious, then maybe it’s time to ask some important questions and get a balanced view on this diet craze. The Problem with Paleo could be your solution.

*All measurements in metric and imperial due to request, with conversion tables*

TIME and MONEY – the two things we do not have a lot of these days.

Pressure cooking is FAST, you can whip a meal for 8 in less than ten minutes cooking time.
Everything goes into the pressure cooker and so there is only one dishwasher friendly pot to wash.
SAVING ELECTRICITY – Back in the 80’s when my Mom was using her pressure cooker electricity was not as expensive, but these days it is extortionate and is sometimes higher than the mortgage in terms of monthly outgoings. With a pressure cooker you can cook a meal in 10-15 mins, when it would have taken at least one hour in an oven where it would have been eating up electricity. And who wants to clean the oven – NOT ME! The faster cooking times and the fact that everything is in one pot saves a bundle when it comes to power.

So to get you going, here are delicious soup, meat, fish and chicken recipes from around the world. Included are cake and loaf recipes as well.

Book includes a detailed set of tables so that you can cook any kind of food any time with confidence.

FAST, FASHIONABLE FOOD.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

I know I’ve had those thoughts and for years I’ve avoided using the pressure cooker that I inherited from my mother (sound familiar?). It’s time to drop those fears and haul it out it out of storage, or get one of the fancier new ones that are making a comeback, and try one of these delicious-sounding recipes.

Lisa makes a good argument for using a pressure cooker and even writes about some great health tips that I wasn’t aware of about the advantages of pressure cooking. There’s an excellent variety of recipes to choose from, although there is a heavy leaning toward meat dishes (fish, poultry, different meats). There are soups, veggie, quick bread and dessert/holiday dishes included, so you’re sure to find something you’d enjoy. I’m going to try the Jaipur Shrimp Curry and the Steamed Lasagna shortly. There are some things I wouldn’t have thought about making in a pressure cooker (like the lasagna), so my curiosity is piqued!

Highly recommended recipe collection. Get going with your pressure cooker and save some money on those nasty electric bills at the same time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing It Back to the Kitchen October 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition

I often wondered why the pressure cooker went out of style. My mom wasn’t much of a cook (sorry, it is the truth) but the family always LOVED pressure cooker night! If you’ve never tried food from a pressure cooker, you’re in for a treat. Far superior to the over-blended flavors a crock pot provides and you don’t have to leave the darn thing on all day just to cook a meal! This time saving appliance needs to return to our lives. The next one I find on sale is coming home with me.

As for this book – yum! A wide variety that I’ll be trying. Many different styles and countries (Norwegian, British, French, Chinese, ‘cowboy’, Greek) are represented and appreciated. There are a few I’ll adapt for our family but the introduction provides a solid base of knowledge so I’m relatively certain I won’t mess anything up with my substitutions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling Reasons October 9, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition

I grew up in the era when pressure cookers were mainly used to can green beans! Ha! Lazuli’s book is an eye-opener. She gives compelling reasons to use a pressure cooker in our often harried days of not much time. I was surprised and pleased to learn the benefits of pressure cooking which include: health and nutritional benefits, time saving benefits, and even money saving benefits!

Lazuli gives practical and delicious recipes from soups through desserts. As a person who has lived in various countries during my life, I especially appreciated the international flavors Lazuli has included in this book.

This book is highly recommended! Enjoy!
