Sugar-Free Cakes, Cookies, Muffins and Tarts: Sugar-Free Cakes, Cookies, Muffins and Tarts

SFCCMaT

40 decadent sugar-free recipes, from cakes to cookies and pies to muffins are at your disposal so you don’t have to reach for that bar of chocolate or that candy next time you crave for something sweet.

The amount of sugar found in food nowadays is staggering! If we were to compare our diet today and the diet of our ancestors the conclusion would be that we consume dozens of times more sugar.

In these conditions, there is no wonder that often our system fails and it breaks into what doctors consider the diseases of the century – type II diabetes, obesity and heart problems.

This book focuses mostly on desserts that have no refined sugar added and most recipes in fact don’t require any other processed sweetener either. Instead, the place of the sweetener has been taken by healthy additions, fresh fruits or interesting flavour combinations so those of you who give these recipes a try have nothing to lose, but only to gain!

Simply bake yourself a batch of these and snack on desserts that are both delicious and healthy! Sit back and indulge guilt free.

I decided at the start of the year to cut out refined sugar. It is so bad for you and the main cause of obesity years ago when the low-fat diet became so popular. There is more sugar in a low fat yogurt than a normal yogurt and that is just crazy.

This book is great in the sense that it cover EVERYTHING any sweet tooth person could possible dream about but without the dreaded refined sugar. The peanut cookies have just 3 ingredients and they are super easy and tasty. The no crust pumpkin pie was delicious and only lasted an hour in our house so I am making another one this weekend for a dinner party. Down with sugar.

REVIEWS:

“ Lisa really goes in to detail, especially about wheat and gluten. I am gluten intolerant and I have to say when I stopped ingesting wheat and gluten my mood as well as my insides were a LOT better.I also sleep much better now… I have started using the cast rang of herbs and foods mentioned in this book and I have to totally agree they bust any bad feeling in me. A great book with some great links to other books and studies. Highly recommended to people not only looking for natural ways to fight depression, but for people looking to sort out their processed diet.”

“  I have undergone treatment for depression in the past, but I don’t remember my psychiatrist talking in any great detail about the importance of the right food as a depression buster. That’s why I found this book by Elizabeth Gordon to be quite unique.£

“Her advice is solid and goes into the specifics. For example, it is important to avoid foods or water that contain arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, etc. There are certain countries where the water is contaminated with these things, it is important to be extra careful. Equally, I found the author’s concerns over wheat very important.”

“  If you don’t think your diet has an effect on your depression think again. The food we eat has a huge impact on the way we feel, sleep and cope with things. Depression is not something to take lightly and many people require medication but there is no reason why you cannot start helping yourself. By reading and following the diet laid out inside, you give yourself a chance to possibly avoid harsh medications and manage your depression with little to no medication. Even if your doctor prescribes medication you should still focus on a diet that supports a healthy body, mind and spirit.”

I am a lover of all foods and love when new cookbooks with new concepts / way of eating are published. I am not that familiar with the nordic diet but have heard eating like a viking was healthy and I love trying new recipes! The introduction is great and covers the whys and what to eat.
There is also a fascinating piece in the book regarding a norweigan chef who set up in London for the olympics – you have to read that part before getting stuck in to the recipes!Ahh the recipes…..They are mouth-watering good BUT they don’t just taste good, they taste amazing. I have bookmarked so many of the recipes and have actually ordered the paperback so I have have it to hand at home aswell as on my kindle.

Coquina soup was our lunch on Saturday and it was SOOO darn tasty. Saturday night we had the casserole of venison and topping off our Nordic weekend we had the lamb cheeseburgers on Sunday afternoon (with my sister and her boyfriend loving them too!) It’s great to have a book to new recipes and ones I really cannot wait to have over and over again.

I hope this author releases more cookbooks

This is a great guide to losing weight and becoming healthy through the proven diet known as, “The Nordic Diet.” The book starts off by describing the scientific studies that have been done that prove the efficacy of this increasingly popular diet; it certainly seems the benefits are real and this diet works out cheaper than other diets.

The recipes contained in this guide are unique, varied and delicious. Each one is explained well, with clear instructions. Nordic treats include; Anjali Pilchard Mouse, Malmo Potato Salad, Marinated and Stewed Rabbit, and Rhubarb Triffle.

Overall this is a well-written and engaging recipe book which includes some delicious Nordic flavours.

REVIEW for PALEO DIET: Get Started, Get Motivated, Feel Great

REVIEW for PALEO DIET: Get Started, Get Motivated, Feel Great

“I must confess, as someone who counts nurses and dieticians as part of her immediate family, I am weary of diet books and the eating/exercise industry in general. As a result, I approached Elizabeth Gordon’s PALEO DIET with some trepidation: this couldn’t actually tell me anything I didn’t already know, packaged up as a supposed amazing new discovery, could it?? Yet this accessible, interesting book really changed my mind!

The Paleo Diet book sets itself up as a guideline, not a bible which I really appreciate – I hate the standard, mocking “do this or you’re an idiot” of so many similar books. Gordon’s conversational tone is like a trusted friend, taking you through every element of the so-called “Caveman diet”. She talks about the history of food and what changing your mindset and lifestyle can do for you in terms of health benefits. As a cancer survivor myself, this is obviously on my mind a lot both for me and my family, so this was especially welcome. Gordon is also honest, saying that in the short term The Paleo Diet will NOT make your life easier, but then I think things worth doing never are. The costs of following a Paleo Diet do concern me, but the recommendation of another book at the end of this one for those who are “cash strapped” (as we are) gives me hope that we can find a good compromise on this.

There are celebrity endorsements of the Paleo Diet and whilst not a pull for me, I can appreciate why some people would be interested in these. I personally enjoyed Gordon’s references to the “dupermarket” – I believe supermarkets and big businesses are in the habit of manipulation re: commerce and particular products being good for us (when they’re not) too. I agree with Gordon that consumerism and a reliance on sugars, processed foods and wheat is not good for us, yet I’ve felt powerless to do anything but merely limit my family’s intake and make basic switches, like olive oil instead of vegetable oil.

This book is packed with tasty looking recipes that genuinely look delicious and are not just the same-old, same-old I’ve seen before – I was particularly intrigued by the Zucchini (courgette) fries. I feel like my eyes have been opened to the possibilities of a radically different diet, which does not include “rabbit food”, but a real enjoyment of tasty foods, even including desserts (and given as a family we ALL have a sweet tooth, this is VERY important!). Thanks, Elizabeth Gordon!”

DELICIOUS NUTRICIOUS RECIPES for the TIME and CASH Strapped

Lose weight, save money and get your five-a-day with these healthy and easy recipes

We are constantly be told by the media to:
Eat less salt
Eat less sugar
Eat less fat
Eat less….period!

And it has been well documented that eating five or more fruit and vegetables a day is vital for good health.
But life is so hectic, we are always in a rush and so how do we do this?

The easiest way to reduce salt, sugar and fat is to cook meals yourself. Pre-prepared meals and processed foods are filled with bad fats, sugar and salt and if they say “LOW FAT”, then they are bound to have twice the sugar. Home cooked meals have a higher nutritional value, less salt, sugar and fat.

Plus, many of us have food allergies or may be gluten intolerant and so we need to know what is going into our meals.

So the purpose of this book is to give you recipes rich in vegetables and nutritional value and so you can be sure you are getting five a day at least. All my puddings contain at least one fruit as well.

The meals are delicious and fail safe, even kitchen novices can succeed.

The majority of meals freeze and keep well for the next day and so once you have made the effort you have a meal ready for another day or even two – this is where you can save time and money while still eating well.

Great for first timers as well as I keep all measurements simply and so as long as you have a pot, a frying pan and an oven proof dish you can make these meals.

There are 7 soups and 14 scrumptious salads; ideal for dieters and so packed with nourishment they can be had as a meal on their own.

Chicken, fish, meat and vegetarian dishes are included. Often I include vegan options. All soups, salads and many more meals are vegan or can be vegan adapted.
There are treat meals for the weekend and also inexpensive meals.

Go ahead and enjoy your food – love eating and be healthier at the same time.
