Gaby joins forces with former detective, Robbie Baggio and they race to gather the evidence and bring down the web of evil protecting this serial killer. However the killer’s instincts alert him to danger and when those closest to the Gaby start turning up dead, she must rely on both her legal skills and grim determination to ensure justice is served.

This was one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read recently. It was well written, engaging and suspenseful! A must read for suspense fans!
At first I knew what to expect but as the book progressed it became more challenging to figure out the missing pieces of the puzzle. I liked this book a lot, quick read, entertaining, twists and thrills!

It took a little time to get wrapped up in it, not due to a poor quality of writing but rather the author carefully laying the groundwork for the story. If you like classic “who done its” in the style of Hitchcock, you will enjoy this story.

Memories are not always a good thing. Sometimes they are scary and should stay locked away. However the truth should be known. I was worried what would happen to Gaby. There are a lot of moments in the book when I was surprised. There are a few plots that I had no idea how they were connected until the author told me. The ending was fitting for Gaby and I liked how the author tied up loose ends. I am giving this book a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

Things was an interesting and quick read in which the author kept me engaged throughout the book. Be careful because once the ball gets rolling in this one, you won’t be able to put it down. Despite knowing who the murderer was fairly early on, Gordon does an amazing job at keeping you interested and engaged throughout the story. I did have to use the dictionary/Wikipedia feature on my kindle for some of the language but the book was definitely worth the little bit of extra “work” & I look forward to reading another book from this author soon.

A string of murders dating back to 1987 and in all that time only one witness and she doesn’t even know she’s a witness!

Young lawyer Gaby has recently married and should be having the time of her life and yet a strange recurring dream is haunting her; she visits a psychologist and a psychic as she desperately attempts to figure it out. Then……it hits her; the memory floods back! Suddenly everything she thought she knew about herself, her family and her past is cast into doubt.

Someone she loves is a KILLER.

But who will believe her? He is popular, successful, charming and credible. The police will say that she has no evidence. People will call her mad, paranoid and spiteful. She must act fast; he is becoming more frenzied and is eyeing up his next victim.

Gaby selects her allies with great care, trusting few in her duplicitous new world and knowing every new piece of evidence she uncovers makes her more vulnerable.

She sets about assembling the evidence: secretively and urgently, before he strikes again. However, he gets wind of her suspicions and this time when he kills, it’s someone very close to Gaby, someone who knows the truth.

Suddenly she realises that she is up against more than just him: he has eminent and influential friends and the scales of justice are rigged against her.

What would you do? What will Gaby do?

A book that will make you wonder if you can ever trust anyone again and the safe answer…..is NO.

A SEALED FATE – Mystery Thriller Set in Dubai.

‘As you read through it, you might say, “Oh…I see where this is going,” but believe me, you don’t.’ Susannah St Clair Foxy Loxy (Vine Voice)

A SEALED FATE

A chain of tragic deaths across Dubai spanning two decades, only Valda knows they were not accidents, but murders.

Her name is next on that list….. Spunky singer Valda ditches her old life in Cape Town for a new start in glittering Dubai. Armed with just her cigarettes and some attitude she sets about reigniting her career and putting to bed the heartache over her former boyfriend Richard.

Valda does indeed find success and to her astonishment love, but all is threatened when she is introduced to a billionaire Sheikh. Her clandestine liaison with the Sheikh, propels her into a murky web of deceit and when newspaper clippings of seemingly accidental deaths across Dubai are posted anonymously to her it is clear she is rushing headlong into the same fate. No one dare cross the Sheikh and she can hardly hardly turn to the law, so with few options open she confides in Larissa.

As an astrologer, Larissa predicts that Valda and the Sheikh’s destinies were sealed from the moment of their first meeting; however she keeps the dire fate that she reads in the charts a secret. Together, Valda and Larissa take a gamble in a game of cosmic Russian Roulette where the stakes are their lives and their adversary, Fate itself.

A thoroughly modern cocktail of intrigue, passion and suspense set against the exotic locales of Cape Town and Dubai with an eclectic mix of characters, a perfect beverage if you like a tangy lemon peel in your drink as this one has a twist at the end too, but you’ll have to read it to discover it.

A riveting read. Cleverly written this modern suspense thriller charts the story of Valda and is set in the exotic but dangerous locations of Cape Town and Dubai. Containing destiny, fate, karma, intrigue and passion it is an edge of the seat read. Its emotional impact is chilling and often quite scary and its tight description and dialogue create real tension. That said it is an easy read and has an easy plot that suddenly shakes you with its swift turns. The journeys between Cape Town and Dubai are very tense and often chilling. The atmosphere and culture of Cape Town and Dubai come alive on the page and Gordon cleverly weaves all this into easy dialogue and vivid descriptions. Once the reader is comfortable with the story along comes another sudden twist. The storytelling is compelling and moves at a fast pace making the book difficult to put down.
The characters are well written and relationships both warm and friendly through to cold and chilling. Valda soon realises that a chain of tragic deaths across Dubai over the last twenty years were not accidents but murders and her name is next on the list. As this unfolds Lisa Gordon keeps the reader guessing as Valda’s relationships with Richard, the Sheik and his bodyguard Ahmed, Charles and Brett develop. Her professional meeting with Larissa turns into friendship and a strong sense of trust between the two as they unwittingly test the assumptions of fate, free will and destiny. All the time I felt I knew what was going to happen next, then was quickly sent in another direction.
Well worth reading, I look forward to reading more novels by Lisa Gordon.

WHAT DID REVIEWERS SAY?

“It certainly proved to be a good read. This excellent reads starts you out with a bang as you experience the killing of a young teen, but why? What does this have to do with the rest of the story? Ah! Our author draws you in with the ‘I have to find out,’ trick. It’s been a while since I have read a book that takes you around so many curves in the story and yet at the end ties all the notes into one bow. This one does.
It is a tale of murder and suspense, family and friends, trust and betrayal, all tightly weaved within the read. The character development is excellent, as is the description of locals, bringing everything to life in the mind’s eye. I loved how it ended, although perhaps a bit sad in some ways, the author definitely brought all the mysterious pieces together. I am happy to recommend this book, a very well written read and well worth your time.” SHIRLEY P JOHNSON AMAZON TOP 1000 REVIEWER.

“Ever wonder what happened to those stories filled with suspense with twists and turns? You know the kind that Alfred Hitchcock produced, making us bite our nails and worry for the hero or heroine! Well Lisa Gordon has penned that type of thriller and it’s worth reading. Her heroine, Gaby thought she was leading an ideal life. She was a rising star in her legal firm and just married a handsome man. Then the nightmares started plaguing her and memories of a childhood trauma erupted. To save her sanity Gaby must delve into the secrets of a serial killer and risk her own life to bring him to justice.

I really enjoyed this suspenseful novel! It reminded me of a Hitchcock thriller, filled with danger but not depending on blood, guts, and gore like modern novels. This is a thriller that delivers chills while chasing an elusive killer. You won’t know until the final pages if this clever killer escapes. Gaby evolved from a society socialite into a brave woman fighting for justice. Pick up this book and enjoy a story worthy of Hitchcock.” DIANNE RAPP

“What if you suspected a relative of yours is a serial killer? What would you do? That’s the premise of this outstanding thriller murder mystery. I was caught up in the story right from page one. It’s the sort of story where you know what the outcome should be, but aren’t really sure the heroine will survive? Seeing it all unfold is really worth the read. This book comes highly recommended.” JAMES HOAG

“Absolutely loved this book. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with the characters & the story line..I couldn’t wait to see what was gonna happen next. The characters are so real you seemed to really connect with them. I found myself feeling the sadness, frustration, & triumph with them. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I can’t wait to read more…Waiting very impatiently for her next book.” JULIE’S BOOK REVIEW

BOOK REVIEW – Psychological Thriller Next of Sin

From the KINDLE BOOK REVIEW

NEXT OF SIN

Another excellent story from Lisa Gordon, I loved the insight into Gaby, Gabriella Harvey and her legal world. The story really draws you in, carries you along, and just when you felt you knew where this was going, well it didn’t. Chick Lit and crime thriller is a good mix and Lisa Gordon does it so well.

So you can expect the unexpected, be prepared to feel the tension and suspense, and experience the uneasy, chilling sense of the unknown. The characters especially Gaby are well drawn and develop as the novel progresses, they are strong and believable with individual personalities. It is well paced and held my concentration throughout.

The descriptions are vivid and settings feel real and the dialogue is tense and gritty. The plot is intricate and compelling, with serial killers, childhood memories, nightmares and traumas dealt with seamlessly. Switching from new marriages to serial killers Gordon does with ease.

This is the second Lisa Gordon novel I have read and look forward to many more.

NEXT of SIN

Review

This is the second book of Lisa Gordon’s that I have read. “A Sealed Fate” was a
nice little book. Lisa did give the reader some tricky curves in it but this
book? “Next of Sin” just knocks the ball out of the park, so to speak. She has a
way of writing that kinda gets you in a groove , reading along, kinda ho hum and
then she gives you a bend in the road.. slips along again and then gives you a
hard right.. slips along and then dumps you right off the cliff. I love
it.
The book follows a family that seems fairly normal, Gaby, the youngest,
Meagan and their older brother Clinton. The golden boy. When Gaby was four, her
oldest sister Alison died while swimming in the ocean on a family outing which
caused their mother to commit suicide by way of alcohol and pills. The family
never really got over it even though their father remarried not too long after
her mom’s death. Gaby meanwhile, just slipped rose colored glasses over her face
and let life take her where it led which was to a summer wedding with her
boyfriend Piers. She had become a lawyer because of her father and wasn’t too
thrilled with her job and even found married life very dull and unrewarding.
After a trip to the bathroom with a bunch of her gal pals at a high school
reunion , she did something very unusual for the conservative Gabriella, she
smoked a joint . Somehow it unlocked the nightmares that had been surfacing in
her sleep for most of her life. She “saw” something that was unbelievable that
had been hidden for all these years that her four year old mind had never
accepted. Herein begins the REAL tale. The title is SO apt once you find out
what is in that four year old’s memory and then it leads you on a chase that
should keep you turning pages. Not wanting to give up more, let me just say, it
sure got a hold on me and I skipped through 600 pages in a day or so. ( even if
it IS doubled spaced! 🙂 ) I highly recommend this as a great thriller. I sure
can’t wait for the next one but Lisa?? This is going to be hard to top!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed L Gordon’s previous novel A Sealed Fate, but this was even better – still had the same out-there characters, exotic locations and general foxiness, but a far more intricate plot.

The pace is fast, the dialogue carries the tale really well and there are some very thoughtful moments giving this a true to life feel.

I was drawn in and found it easy to put myself in the character’s shoes: Gaby is a terrific heroine, yet at the same time sounds like a person you could meet in real life not like a work of fiction.

If you enjoy reading about serial killers; put all assumptions aside as this is not your usual serial killer thriller, in fact there is a shocking true to life twist.

Great writing and use of language, humour, suspense and thrills! Very professional editing and finishing; not an amateur cook book thriller but a MasterChef feast of a read.
